During February and March 1923, George Mallory was sent on a speaking tour in the USA, with the aim of raising funds for the next Everest expedition. The tour was financially disappointing but did much to enhance Mallory’s reputation.
In the letter shown above, dated Boston March 8, Mallory writes:
The longer I visit US the less time I appear to spend in NY – but one of these days I much hope we may meet again. This was never to be.
